Alright so I mixed this one up a little. Some semi-new stuff and a lot of slept on shit. There is loads of hard-ass club that people forget about that its a sin. Haven’t y’all heard about that “new-old shit”?

This month, our homie Kenny Fiesta stopped by to hit us with a club and pop-focused mix of Floridian jams. Here’s his description of this hella fun mix:

This is ‘Flo-Ridas’ Side A of a 100 minute mixtape…when I went to Miami this year, my boys asked me to make a tape for when we rented a car. This is what came out of it…I went back and did it right. This was actually done entirely in Adobe Audition. Every artist is from Florida, and usually stacked to get a full dose of them. We’re also big Pitbull fans, as in 2007 on a 4 hour drive from Tampa to Miami, we heard all his albums.

Side B coming soon, but for now, enjoy Side A, (even if it is a bit heavy on Crossfaded Bacon Anti-Favorite Plies songs)!

This month, I (Emynd) wanted to make a mix of some of the new-ish R&B I’ve been into so I could listen to it on my just-long-enough-to-be-annoying drive to work every day. Some of it is cheesy, some of it is sappy, some of it is HARD, and some of it is guilty pleasure steez, but whatever… I fux with this stuff. Serg will hate this, but you shouldn’t. Mostly done in one-take with a bit of editing here and there to clean up some stuff. I scratched a little bit too much in parts because I got all ADD while doing this in one-take, so sorry about that. Anyway, enjoy!

1ST & 15TH MIXES: VOL 6 BO BLIZ “BEST OF REEF”

“Best of Reef”

For this month I wanted to put the spotlight on some CFB fam, Reef The Lost Cauze. When I set out to do this mix, I was reviewing a whole gigabytes worth of mp3’s of this motherfucker. REEF HAS BEEN RAPPING A LOT. I mean a lot since like 3rd grade. But really it seems like his modern rap career started with “The High Life”. What was that, 01? Something like that.

Anyways, I was moving back to Philly from PSU and making lots of beats around that time and we collabbed on his next album “Invisible Empire” (as did Emil/Emynd). Since then he’s been dropping solo albums, crew albums, solo mixtapes, producer collab albums- all types of shit. To do this mix I ended up cutting out any rapper collabs, I just wanted to focus on Reef. Reef is a MOTHERFUCKING VERSATILE ARTIST!!! I put his battle raps, his more personal tracks, his what’s going on type tracks… all that shit, and yeah, it wasn’t easy to cut joints out to make it roughly 70 minutes. I hope y’all feel the tracklisting, and more importantly I hope Reef doesn’t think I left anything off, or cut verses off he wanted on there. Doing these is definitely different and tougher when it’s your bol’s shit.

Enough talking… I’m rambling. Make it clear though… This guy is a fucking monster. If you hate on this dude because who he rolls with or who he is associated with, fuck what you heard. This dude is nasty on all types of tracks.

With or without this music shit, it’s an honor to call him my people.

GO COP “A VICIOUS CYCLE” Digitally or the CD.

COP “FIGHT MUSIC” WHEN IT COMES OUT.

Sorry Reef no gun shots.

DOWNLOAD (ZSHARE)

I started listening to Bounce music about two years ago and, over the past couple years, have acquired a pretty extensive collection of CDs, MP3s, and records of this really rich music. For those unfamiliar with Bounce, it is a fairly unique strain of club-oriented hip-hop that originated in New Orleans sometime around 1991 with MC TT Tucker’s “”Where Dey At.”” Almost 20 years later, Bounce still dominates the urban club and block party scene in New Orleans with very little major label backing. Just as Baltimore Club is based on the Lyn Collins’ “Think” break and the Gaz “Sing Sing” break, Bounce beats are based on samples from The Showboy’s “Drag Rap” (aka “Triggerman”) and Derek B’s “Rock The Beat” drum break (more commonly known as “the Brown Beat”). The best club music seems almost always to thrive on calculated simplicity, and Bounce is no exception, relying on MC work that is based on simple call and response chants, straightforward rhyme schemes/patterns, and repetitive dance refrains. My buddy Noz has helped me learn a lot about this music and several years ago (right after Katrina), he put together a really great collection of earlier Bounce songs that you can download here. Also, the first podcast on New Orleans rap has got some good stuff on it as well.

In contrast to Noz’s collection of songs, I made my mix as an effort to put people onto some more recent New Orleans Bounce songs and artists that they likely aren’t very familiar with. As you’ll notice pretty quickly, I’ve kept the mixing and DJing to a real minimum and tried to move pretty quickly from song to song to fit in as much stuff is possible. There isn’t a real rhyme or reason for most of the selections on here. They’re mostly just a bunch of Bounce songs I really like, and I’m hoping some of y’all will enjoy this stuff enough to go and support some of these artists. I’ve provided links wherever possible to help make that search as easy as I could because a lot of these folks have a pretty strong presence on Myspace. Please hit these dudes up on their Myspace, support their events, and buy whatever you can from them.

1st & 15th (Pretty Much) Mix Series: Volume 1: Bo Bliz “Best of T.I.”

Included are all of his best joints from “I’m Serious” to “T.I. vs. T.I.P.” The tape is arranged album by album, except I threw “Big Shit Poppin'” on there with “King”, because in my opinion, “T.I. vs. T.I.P.” was trash. If you’ve only listened to dude’s hits, you’ve been fucking up, and this mix should acquaint you with a little of what you’ve been missing.

I left off any tracks from his new album, because you really need to buy that shit… The beats and the focus weren’t really there for “T.I. vs. T.I.P.”, but he’s back on his grizzly for this new shit.

T.I. can do sentimental joints, club bangers, street anthems, and joints for the ladies. I put a little bit of all that on there. Right now it’s one long mix, but I may also track it out. The tracklist is in the comments section on the ID3 tags.

ElectroCute, classic, shoulda went triple…

THIS ISN'T NO DAMN GAME IN HERE

Yeah… So I don’t know if this came out in 2005 or 2006, I just know it’s kinda old and hot as shit. There are a couple tracks on here that aren’t exactly timeless, but I listened to this mix today while I was uh… doing absolutely nothing and I still really like it. This mix has insane amounts of doo-dahs, blends, remixes, doo-dahs, exclusives, genres, and just a higher production value than a large majority of mixes. You see how much I’m hyping this jawn? I’ve decided that since it’s mad old, that it’s ok to praise my (our) own work this much. Not to mention the fact that the electro on it is good old school electro and not this bloggy new school crap. But seriously, this mix bangs and we were doing this electro thing while you were still in the marching band.

Oh yeah, I’m going to find the oldest picture of me and sparks on my photobucket since zshare is taking so damn long.

BLIZ and SPARKS

BANG THIS YOU SUCKAS!!!

50 Cent “Sincerely Yours, Southside”

Ok, so this is a few weeks old now. But if you are a dj who plays hip-hop and/or classics this is an important mixtape to dl. It’s got 50 rhymin over looped up intros of a lot dj set staples (if you’re from philly or uh… nyc) that could be extremely useful if you are going back and forth from raps to classics etc.

My favorites on the mix are the Prince jawn, Before I Let Go, and Rising to the Top. On other tracks he spits over Heartbreak, Be Thankful, and even a Stevie Wonder joint. In other words- ALL TYPES OF ILL SHIT.

This is a lot of fun, and while he’s not destroying tracks, he still manages to remind me of him back when he was truly nasty.

Jamaica Queens in here!!!!

Salute The Bol

JEEZY

So yeah, I listen to a bunch bullshit waiting for new Jeezy material but this is the one. You know, the one that actually has some tracks from the upcoming album. It’s heat and my mans that’s known for stickin’ to the script did just that. It’s only 12 tracks, so you won’t be skipping through lot of guest verses with up and coming rnb youngs and lils. I been waiting for this. Some highlights:

“passengers a red bone, her weave look like some curly fries,
insides fish sticks, outside tartar sauce,
pocket full of celery, imagine what she telling me,
blowing on asparagus, realest shit I ever smoked,
riding to that trap or die, the realest shit I ever wrote,
they know I got that broccoli, so I keep that glock on me…”

Hungry? I mean we heard the food metaphors before, but this has to be the first time someone made hair weave appealing by comparing it to some curly fries. Don’t worry Jeezy, I’M RIDING!!!!!

But yeah, Jeezy is funny at times but mostly he’s just killing it.

GRAB THAT YOUNG JEEZY “PRIME MINISTER” MIXTAPE

Bo Bliz’ Stevie Wonder Mix

Stevie

This is a couple years old, but obviously its a timeless mix. This guy is my GOAT, so I tried to put my favorite shit on there and spread my love for him. There isn’t really a theme to it as he is an insanely multi-dimensional artist. But it does have more 70’s shit on it than music from any other era. A lot of people have made Stevie Wonder tapes that focused on his more obscure stuff but this is mostly obvious. There is even some scratching on there. Can’t beat that. All vinyl mix cuz I’m real like that.

GRAB THAT ISH HERE!!!

PS- PARTIES ARE GOING DOWN THIS WEEKEND FOLKS!

Linked below is a pretty thorough mix of Philly rap that Bo and I did that reaches from Cool C and the Tuff Crew, through the State Property and Roc years, all the way up to new-comers like Joey Jihad and Meek Millz. We completed this about two years ago so there isn’t much new stuff, and it’s really impossible to be exhaustive when making mixes like this–you’re bound to leave someone disappointed with what’s been included and what’s been excluded. But, that being said, since we never wound up doing anything with this mix and we’re both still really happy with it, we figured we might as well post it on the internets for the world to download.

Big shout outs to Cosmo Baker who was a big influence on this mix (he was the reason we put “40 Barz” up on this ish). I know he’s been talking about working on a Philly rap mix of his own for several years now and Lord knows if he ever completes it, it’ll be light-years better than this one. Hopefully you’ll enjoy this though. By the way, yes, we know the Krown Rulers are from Camden.

Philly, stand up!
