Release Info:
The Club Champ EP” is Emynd‘s newest digital-only EP of exclusive Club and Dance anthems that showcase his forward thinking approach of uniquely combining his vast influences, infusing songs with elements of Hip-Hop, House, Baltimore Club, and New Orleans Bounce. On the title track “The Club Champ,” Emynd digs deep into his Hip Hop breakbeat background, producing an energetic Bmore influenced banger that thumps with heavy organs and smashing kick drums. While Scott Matelic‘s remix of the track adds various twists and turns that recontextualize the vibe effortlessly, premier New Orleans producer Peacachoo‘s Bounce remix completely deconstructs the song, transforming it into an entirely new Bounce anthem that’ll rattle the bassbins from the Bayou to Bass Music parties everywhere. Rounding out the release are the tumbling “Triggerman” bells on “Hot Down Here,” the NY House influenced “Okay! What’s Up!” and “Hold It Down 2009” — a track originally featured exclusively on the Do It To It Volume 2 Vinyl release alongside work from heavyweights Nadastrom, Bird Peterson, and Tittsworth. (“Hold it Down 2009” is Emynd’s updated re-working of the classic 2 Bad Mice song “Hold It Down”) Already supported by some of the biggest DJs in the world from Diplo to Sinden to Dave Nada, it’s another sure fire, champion sound release!

Today I’ve upped 320 MP3s for the internets to download of Scott Matelic‘s great remix of the title track, and my “Hold It Down 2009.” Comments and feedback appreciated as always and thanks for the support!

This month’s mix comes live and direct from big homie Scottie B who rocked with us live at Silk City Sunday May 24th. He keeps it pretty standard with some classic Bmore shit and then moves into some hood anthem rap shit. Really smooth and just a fun mix. Scottie B is the consummate professional DJ. He kills every single crowd. Really psyched he let us post this. Only wish we had a mic set up so you could hear the crowd chanting along to all the words as he drops the volume for them to sing along (I placed air horns over the blank spaces ’cause they sound weird without drunk folks singing along).

Thoughts and comments welcome as always!

New Emynd Track on Top Billin Volume 3

From the Top Billin Website:

The third and final episode in the ‘Tales’ saga has been a long time coming and here it finally is. The EP is our favorite so far as we got 3 very special tracks from our international friends and another 3 bangers from within our Helsinki crew.

Philly’s very own Emynd has been a Top Billin affiliate for a while and we’re super happy to have him on this EP. ‘What About Tomorrow’ builds on a timeless 80’s classic, starting off with club style chops and soon progressing into housier territory. This one’s for the ladies, no doubt. Emynd also killed it at our club night here, so go ahead and book him.

Go here to read about the release and download a mix with snippets. Gonna be a dooooooooooooope record! Available now exlcusively RIGHT HERE! GO COP IT

Diddy & Booman “Get Off”

I’m not sure how this slipped by my radar several years ago when it happened, but apparently several years back, Booman was comissioned to do an official remix for Mr. Locked In himself Diddy (aka the most annoying twitterer ever). The short version of the story is up in this 41yo.com post (which is an EXCELLENT resource for all things Bmore related). Also, go there to download Booman’s remix which is really really great!

Baltimore Club in the New Yorker

Not sure why SFJ hollered at my dumb ass to contribute some comments on Baltimore Club (possibly because he didn’t have a link to a more reliable source than me?) in his latest blog post, but I’m not about to turn down an opportunity to wax poetic about Baltimore Club Music… even if it’s controversial! Anyway, go read his piece and maybe hit us with some comments. Also, go support that DJ Sega CD. Shit bangs.

Big ups to everyone making Baltimore Club music… even if it sucks.

Emynd ft Kate Pascoe “Don’t Say Goodbye”

My friends at Discobelle recruited me to do a song for their recent compilation with Scion and they recently posted it. It’s a weird Euro-House-meets-Bmore song with my good friend Katie on the vocals. I put a loooooooooot of work into and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. Hope you guys enjoy it as well.

Random Rap Music I Like

I’m like 8 months behind on all things rap related, which keeps me right at pace with the rest of the world but waaaay behind blogger nerds. Whatever. These moderately old songs are keeping me sane at work right now and thought it worth putting y’all on to them.

DJ Class ft Kanye West “I’m the Sh*t” Remix Download

What’s left to say about this song now that Kanye has hopped onto it. Bmore finally has a crossover hit (the first since “Doo Doo Brown”?)! Love it.

Pitbull “Calle Ocho” (75 Brazil Street) Download

Pitbull rapping on top of the Big Room House cut “75 Brazil Street” by Nicola Fasano & Pat Rich. I’m a sucker for this ish, not just because it’s modern Hip-House but because Pitbull actually does it well. There’s not a lot of rappers out there that sound comfortable doing this type of ish, but Pitbull has the amazing ability to hop on whatever–no matter what tempo–and just kill it. Obviously, it’s also a really useful club joint for us dork club DJs.

Playboy Tre “Eagles Fly” Download

Not club related at all, Playboy Tre from the Ham Squad is one of my favorite rappers right now and his “Goodbye America” mixtape is solid from front to back. Really dope production and Tre just kicking some everyman type of ish alongside his Ham Squad bredren with appearances from B.O.B., Bo Hagon, Homebwoi and some more. The mixtape is highly recommended and this song “Eagles Fly” is one of the more enjoyable and heartfelt songs on the tape.

Remi ft Gucci Mane “Bubble Up” Download

Beat is hard as hell here and both Remi and Gucci go in. Heard this on some random, bootleg ass Gucci Mane mixtape but here’s CDQ with no DJ for y’all.

Gucci Mane “Runnin Back” Download

Gucci’s just clowning on this jawn but it’s a dope change of pace to hear him on a 94 bpm breakbeat burner. Gucci has clearly grown a lot over the past 5 or 6 years becoming one of the most interesting and versatile rappers you’re likely to hear these days. Dude is really exciting right now.
