The Interrupters Documentary

Steve James, the director of CFB favorites Hoop Dreams and No Crossover: The Trial of Allen Iverson, has been hard at work on a new documentary called The Interrupters. It looks phenomenal. Check the trailer above and their website for more info and festival showtimes. There doesn’t seem to be a general release date yet, but we’ll be sure to keep you informed as soon as we find out more info. UPDATE: I was just notified by The Interrupters twitter account (which is probably the best way to find out about showtimes that there will be a showing of this film at the Cinefest Philly in April. The exact time and date has yet to be announced.

The Interrupters tells the moving and surprising stories of three Violence Interrupters who try to protect their Chicago communities from the violence they once employed. From acclaimed director Steve James and bestselling author Alex Kotlowitz, this film is an unusually intimate journey into the stubborn, persistence of violence in our cities. Shot over the course of a year out of Kartemquin Films, The Interrupters captures a period in Chicago when it became a national symbol for the violence in our cities. During that period, the city was besieged by high-profile incidents, most notably the brutal beating of Derrion Albert, a Chicago High School student, whose death was caught on videotape.

@LilBTheBasedGod & @Emynd

Lil B The Based God – I Want Your Bitch (Produced by Emynd) by Emynd

I blogged about this a little over a year ago, but that was before Lil B was the internet sensation he is now so I figured it was a good look to re-up this song that I did with B back in July of 2009. I made a special trip out to the Bay to meet the young bol and get some work done with him and he was truly the most kind, interesting, genuine kid I’ve ever met in this rap game. Spending 10 seconds with B will forever prove to you that everything he does is worth paying attention to… regardless if you like it or not. This song we did is pretty damn silly and I’m not extremely proud of how it turned out, but it is a worthy part of B’s diverse discography and I’m actually really proud to be a part of Lil B’s now classic album “6 Kiss” (even though I get no production credit on it! Hah!). I’ve gotten a lot of good feedback on it from a variety of sources regardless of my own personal feelings about it but it’s definitely kinda crazy to have a song on an album that Soulja Boy has in his top 10 of all time. It’s also the 7th most popular Lil B song on Amazon so clearly people are feeling it.

Anyway, look out for The Based God World Takeover that’s BEEN happening and will likely continue to happen in the coming weeks and months and (hopefully) years.

LONG LIVE THE BASED GOD!

1st & 15th Mixcast Vol 23 – Last Word – Somewhere Between Fast Food & Vegan Vol. 2

Somewhere Between Fast Food & Vegan Vol. 2 by Last Word

In 2007, DJ Last Word released the compilation CD “Somewhere Between Fast Food & Vegan, Vol. 1.” A collection of remixes he had done for various Twin Cities MCs, Vol. 1 was created simply to make some food and beer money while on the road.  As 2009 was ending, he decided to start working on Vol. 2, this time using a different approach and making a mixtape in reverse. Creating over 40 edits and blends for this new volume, Last Word re-worked some of his favorite hip hop songs with the originals that they were sampled from. He then chopped, blended and scratched them into the cohesive new banger of a mix “Somewhere Between Fast Food & Vegan Vol. 2.”

Presented by Crossfaded Bacon and Get Cryphy, “Somewhere Between Fast Food & Vegan Vol. 2” features re-edits of songs by Jay-Z, Kanye, Lil Wayne, M.O.P., Outkast, The Isley Brothers, Iron Maiden, Playboy Tre, Johnie Taylor, Henry Mancini and more.  This edition also features special guest appearances from Minneapolis MC Prof, P.O.S., and Mike Mictlan of Doomtree plus Minneapolis’ Get Cryphy DJ crew on the cut.  Pop it in you’re deck or iPod and ENJOY.

This mix also marks the triumphant return of Crossfaded Bacon’s 1st & 15th Mixcast Series. All previous 22 Mixes are currently up on the Crossfaded Bacon Mixcloud page to stream or available here for free download. Keep checking back every 1st & 15th of the month for brand new mixes, podcasts, and mixtapes.

PROPS! “So Ghetto” (Produced by Vitamin D)

This is the kind of stuff that makes me proud of my hometown, Indianapolis. PROPS! is a former Indy resident now living in Seattle. I had never heard of dude until last week when I saw this video directed by my up and coming (NH) young homie Jace. Filmed in Naptown, Jace has been killing the music video game as of late. Peep his YouTube page for proof. First-rate production is provided by fellow Seatown native (and Jake One ally), Vitamin D.

Lay It Down (Emynd Booty Bass Remix)

Lay It Down (Emynd Booty Bass Remix) by Emynd

If you can’t tell by now, I really love double-timing slow jams into So So Def Atlanta Bass inspired stuff. I’m not sure if anyone is capable of liking this as much as I do, and I know it’s kind’ve tacky to be a fan of your own stuff, but god damn I really really love this shit. Even though dude looks like Jar Jar Binks, I’m officially a Lloyd fan. Hope y’all enjoy this half as much as I do. If you’re feeling this joint, check out my various other Booty Bass joints here.

DJ Pete Butta – The Palmerton Sessions 005

The Palmerton Sessions 005 by Pete Butta

Greetings! After years of knowing Bo Bliz and Emynd (I remember the day when Bo handed me the Electro-Cute mix) they have given me a log in to post some of my projects to share with you guys. Bo, E, and I are all Penn State brethren – forever Nittany Lions! I have played at some of these gentleman’s events, and some of you may remember the “Best of Gucci Mane” mix that we put together a couple years ago.

Continuing in the mix tradition, I wanted to share this mix – a collection of House/New Disco Jams that I put together entitled “The Palmerton Sessions 005”. I Hope you enjoy!
