Emynd & Bo Bliz “CROSSFADED BACON EP” FHZ013

I’m posting the “one sheet” for this because I’m too lazy to write more BS. God I hate writing this stuff, but I guess it’s a necessary evil. Anyway, should be up on turntablelab and other fine stores soon. Should be going digital through Unruly in a couple weeks as well.

By the way, the covers look amazing. You can’t tell from this picture, but the cardboard sleeve is a beautiful cityscape photograph of Philly by the extremely talented Michael Penn and the cardboard sleeve will be covered with a plastic sleeve with all the graphics and text, including the drawings of Emynd and Bo Bliz by big homie Vlad from Toronto. Looks and sounds absolutely beautiful.

Big ups to Casi and Dan for putting it together, Derrick at Bustbright for the design, Starkey for the mixing/mastering, and me and Bo for killing it.

Emynd (pronounced “E-Mind”) and Bo Bliz are a Philadelphia-based DJ and Production duo that have made their mark by successfully producing an extremely wide variety of club-crushing anthems that range in style from Baltimore Club, New Orleans Bounce, House, and Old School Electro/Bass to traditional Hip-Hop production work with a variety of MCs. They have traveled extensively showcasing their talents and, most notably, make up two thirds (with Dan the Swede) of Philly’s now-defunct legendary party “White Ts & White Belts,” boasting an impressive line up of performing guests from DJs like Diplo, Low Budget, Scottie B, and Blaqstarr to major rappers like Freeway, Peedi Crakk, and Beanie Sigel. They are renowned for the unique ability to play a wide variety of dance musics without resorting to pretenses of irony and/or kitsch and have proven to be forward thinking producers with releases on a variety of record labels. Emynd has done solo production work on labels like Diplo’s MAD DECENT, German electronc label EQUINOX, and even the legendary Baltimore Club label UNRULY RECORDS. Emynd and Bo Bliz’s first record – the “White Ts and White Belts” EP also released by FLAMIN HOTZ in February of 2006—remains to this day to be one of FLAMIN HOTZ’s fastest selling and most critically acclaimed release.

Gaining support from a motley collection of DJs over the last several years, Emynd and Bo Bliz’s songs have become staples on the set lists of some of the most respected and celebrated DJs on earth. From this record alone, Diplo, Scottie B, and recently departed Bmore Club superstar K-Swift (RIP) have been spinning Emynd’s “Rock This Park” for the last several months, while Annie Mac has been playing Emynd’s “Hangin On” ever since she mysteriously got her hands on a copy of the unmixed and unmastered MP3 several years ago. “To All My Haters” was recently released digitally as the lead single to his “Philly 2 Bmore” EP on UNRULY RECORDS which has been making a lot of noise in Bmore, Philly, and beyond. In fact, “To All My Haters” was such a boisterous anthem, FLAMIN HOTZ absolutely insisted that the song be on this record even though it was previously released digitally. Furthermore, “Deep Down Inside” is a useful update of the classic House cut “Deep Inside” that completely recontextualizes the Harddrive classic, while “Flip It Snap It” is Emynd’s richly produced original creation that takes the Bmore aesthetic deeper than any of his previous work.

Likewise, Bo Bliz’s tracks are just as hard-hitting and far-reaching. His first track on the EP, “APW,” showcases Bliz’s continued obsession with the violent Bmore his “Philly Club Anthem” introduced on the “White Ts and White Belts EP.” Menacing strings and synth stabs, backed with vocals that will get any party-goer pumping their fists, “APW” would be the hardest song on this record if it weren’t for the presence of Bliz’s next track “Stick ‘Em Up.” Chopped drums, stuttering samples, a murderous bassline, and Ludacris’s indisputable command to “Put your hands where I can see em!” have made “Stick ‘Em Up” an absolute triumph. Bo’s soulful remix of “This Magic Moment” carries on an important tradition in Bmore club of turning oldies into club bangers that younger generations can appreciate in an entirely new context. Finally, his House/Bmore “Go Back” is a mix of the B-Boy classic “It’s Just Begun” that shows a departure from more traditional club style productions.

Outside of the studio, Emynd and Bo Bliz continue to hold down several DJ gigs a month in Philly while traveling frequently to DJ as well. In the studio, they’ve got a very busy release schedule planned for the coming months. Emynd has a digital release coming out soon on EQUINOX RECORDS and just finished a Bmore song with Rocafella/Def Jam recording artist Young Chris from the Young Gunz, NOLA Bounce producer Peacachoo, Philly rapper Reef the Lost Cauze, and several other surprises while putting the finishing touches on a solo EP that will be released shortly on his record label with Bo Bliz, CROSSFADED BACON RECORDS. Bo Bliz is in the planning stages of his own digital EP on UNRULY RECORDS.
